I’ve been a huge fan of the Kimai time-tracking tool since 2010. It’s easy to use yet so feature-rich that you’ll find absolutely no limitations. I’ve tried many tools, but none could convince me as much as Kimai, so I remain a loyal user. And on top of that, there’s excellent, personalized support: a migration from my self-hosted Kimai instance to the cloud was handled with a personal email response and completed within minutes. I was able to continue working seamlessly right away. Absolutely top-notch! Thank you so much for this great tool!

We’ve been using the brilliant Kimai tool for a while now and have recommended it to many people. Recently, we came up with an idea internally that we’ve implemented and are currently expanding. It involves an order management system with a management portal built on the Kimai platform. By the way, it’s absolutely fantastic. It’s truly impressive how well the tool has been documented and how open it is to customizations.

Kimai has been with my company since the very beginning. As a service provider, it is important for us and our customers that we can bill for projects down to the minute. Our customers appreciate the clear overview of the work performed (duration, activity, etc.). We appreciate no Excel, everything in one place, faster and easier support, open source, and many other features.

At this point, I would like to say a big thank you to Kimai. Any queries you may have are answered promptly, politely and competently. For us as a small provider of social services, it’s great that we can use such a professional programme as a basic version free of charge. We recently made the switch from Toggl to a self-hosted Kimai. As a TYPO3 agency, open source, data sovereignty, and full control over the software were essential to us. We wanted to decide ourselves when to enable specific features and have the freedom to implement our own customizations. The migration of data from Toggl to Kimai was smooth, and our team quickly adapted to the interface, which resembles Toggl but offers more advanced options—especially for reporting and analytics.

We are absolutely convinced by the solution. Above all, open source and self-hosting – that’s great! It runs very stably for us on an Ubuntu server in Hyper-V. The support is first-rate, competent, fast and friendly. My absolute recommendation.

Kimai has been a fantastic discovery. I reviewed several other time trackers, and frankly, none of them compared. Kimai just felt better right away. We have been enthusiastic users of Kimai for many years. Initially only for our own documentation purposes, but now also for recording working hours in the company. Instead of using expensive service providers, we were able to use Kimai, the Kiosk plugin and the plugin for working hours to create our own low-cost version, which now works reliably. Kimai really convinced me. I spent a long time looking for the right solution for us. The specifications were a low-cost solution for many employees where I didn’t have to buy a 30 EUR / month licence for a part-time employee. However, Kimai (which runs on our server) has all (and more) of the functions we need. Above all, start/stop via browser and app, assignment of projects and much more are optimal functions. It is the time recording system that I would recommend to agency friends.

The system addresses our time tracking needs with an easy-to-use interface, which has been a major pain point with other providers. We run it in-house on our existing Docker infrastructure, helping us minimize costs. The ability to host it ourselves is something that many other solutions lack, and it’s been a deal-breaker for us in the past.

Kimai was my first foray into open-source software; my company tasked me with migrating an old Kimai plugin called Period Insert, which I eventually decided to publish. My experience has been very positive. I am impressed by Kimai’s ease of use and by how my small contribution to it has been used around the world. Just a great app that is used in our company. It does not require a lot of resources on the server, has a great interface and a lot of features that are so necessary in everyday work.

We use Kimai as a self-hosted instance to manage working times, vacation and illness-days for ~40 employees. We love open source software and the passion Kevin Papst puts into that tool is a real gamechanger for us. There are a lot of features and settings to adjust, but it’s not too complicated to maintain the whole system. Hopefully Kimai will be our mate for the next years to support our own story as a company, that is developing impactful and open source software!

We started using self-hosted Kimai - and it works perfectly! We especially like integration with Google Workspace, which is very convenient.

Kimai combines usability and high data protection standards - a rare find in project management tools. Easy to setup and use right away, with many options for adapting it to specific needs and processes. One tip for first-users: Projects have to be set up in Administration in order to be able to start time tracking - so far that’s the only thing that got me searching.

We have been using KIMAI for many years, previously self-hosted at an internet provider, and for some time now in the cloud. The data model fits our business field perfectly, in which we bill certain projects based on effort and others at a fixed price (budgeted). Both billing models are supported by KIMAI. For budgeted projects, we keep track of the respective consumption of time and costs in relation to the budget (burndown). For time-and-materials projects, we export all billable hours along with the stored hourly rates monthly or quarterly as a basis for the invoices, which we create with another invoicing/accounting software.

In addition to what I consider a very practical data model and the logical structure, the cloud solution is also very well designed in terms of look and feel, modern and intuitive to use. I find everything where I expect it to be. Numerous small features, such as hiding columns or the filter options, make work easier. In addition, a great deal is configurable, so I am not forced to adapt my processes to KIMAI; instead, I can adapt KIMAI to my needs.

Support responds very quickly. I have also been able to submit several suggestions that were actually implemented promptly. I have not yet experienced such implementation strength with any other provider of cloud solutions.

Out of conviction and free of charge, I have shown KIMAI to befriended business partners from completely different industries, recommended it to them, and supported them in setting it up.

From my point of view, an absolute recommendation, very professional and well thought out. You can tell from the software its maturity and from the manufacturer the experience in this field.

We have been using Kimai in our electrical company for the past two years, and we are currently transitioning to a fully paperless process with Kimai only for managing timesheets. Our employees adapted quickly, as we developed a customized workflow tailored to our business needs. Thanks to Kimai, we’ve reduced the time spent processing timesheets for our 20 employees, as well as managing project reports (construction reports, work reports, daily customer reports), from around 10 hours per week to just 2 hours. We also underwent a payroll tax audit without any issues; the only requirement is the employee’s signature on the timesheet. The developer of Kimai is also very receptive to useful feature suggestions, which makes me confident that even more great improvements are on the way.

I was testing Kimai several years ago and then I decided to move to different time tracking tools and the last time I was mostly working with Clockify and now I found Kimai back and I’m very impressed how the software is working, How fast it is. And I also really like a lot the approach to host the software on my own so that we keep our confidential data in our own systems. The software is easy to use, it’s fast, and I get all the features that I need, and the possibility to discuss on GitHub also helps a lot to find fast solutions. I needed to find a good time tracker on short notice, and wanted it to be EU hosted and open source. Luckily, I found Kimai and have been very happy with it ever since, especially because it is very straightforward and intuitive to use. After using it for my initial project, the Kimai team helped me migrate my data for company use, now allowing us to roll it out for the entire team without losing the original data. Kimai has worked perfectly for CodeWeavers. We spent a great deal of energy comparing timesheet solutions, from proprietary to open source. None of the proprietary solutions had the functionality and simplicity of Kimai. Because it’s open source, we can confidently rely on it for years and years to come. Finally, we have hired Kevin to help us customize Kimai for our needs. His work has been fantastic. As a result, we have a professional solution, custom tailored to our needs, for far less than we were prepared to spend on one of the proprietary solutions.

I’ve always preferred self-hosting services, but when I discovered Kimai, I saw the value in their free cloud plan. Wanting to support the developers (being a developer myself), I upgraded to the paid version, and it’s been worth every penny.

We have been working with KIMAI 1 for over 8 years and have had the very best experiences with it. It is ideally tailored to our needs (tutoring school). KIMAI 2 has been completely reprogrammed, many aspects have been optimized, and the interface has been brought up to the latest standards. When I started to identify a time reporting software for our medium size enterprise (~30 people distributed all over United States and Canada) in the software service industry for onsite and remote services, I had several programs in my mind. In my specification I had the following things to be covered

• Customer related time reporting
• Project related time reporting
• Time approval
• Various hierarchies in user and access levels
• Open data interface for potential interfaces to other software packages (such as various payroll software packages for Canada and US, ERP for invoicing)
• Time budget for hourly packages
• Time reporting to customers with time budget
• The data is mine and I always want to have access to it
• I would like to create plugins if I need to add features that do not yet exist

I continued my search but always came back to Kevin Papst’s time reporting software Kimai. So I installed it on a shared host. I continued to set up a few users and imported a few customers, projects and finally understood how activities are to be set up (global and local). This is a feature that surprised me even more. Well implemented! I finally rolled it out to a small group and then the entire team. The time reporting is now fully implemented within 2 months from first idea to fully operational.

Then the demands grow with the possibilities: I purchased a few plugins and these were installed as simple as the main software. Then, when I had even more requests that I didn’t find an answer by plugins, I reached out to the developer Kevin asking for help with changing a report and he simply answered to consider this for the entire software, not just a module for me. It may be within some of the next releases.

In summary, Kimai is a flexible time reporting package with active code, modern, responsive and fast user interface and a fast responding support.
